Paysage et implantations du Néolithique final à l'âge du Bronze ancien au Collet-Redon (Martigues, Bouches-du-Rhône)

Abstract

Since 1999, the site of Collet-Redon (Martigues, Bouches-du-Rhône, France) has seen a recent study in order to collect new information about the different settlement or occupation phases which have taken place since the first settlements of the late Neolithic period up to the late Bronze Age. As well as opening up a new excavation area, several studies – of architecture and paleoenvironment- have been undertaken which allow us to assess the joint evolution of environment and settlement types from the Couronnien Neolithic up to the Barbed-Wire Bronze Age. Our studies consist in a re-evaluation of the built remains and domestic structures revealed by Mr Escalon de Fonton's excavations, in order to describe any change in the nature of the settlements. Two types of installations follow one another on this site: one domestic unit for the late Neolithic, a segment of fortification wall for the early Bronze Age. Parallel to this, the paleoenvironmental side of this study aims, other than a description of the landscape for each occupation phase, to assess the changes in background and the part that human activities may have played in this process.
